Nothing Happened

I teach the first grade.
I make them go to the bathroom in groups.
One day, a boy told me,
“Ms., someone from sixth grade took a boy to the toilet,
And did bad things to him.”

“Bad things” could be used to refer to several things,
Such as slapping him on the face.
“What do you mean by “bad things,” dear?”
“He made him take off his pants,
And did bad things to him.”
“Do you know that boy in sixth grade?
Let’s go to their classroom,
As if we’re just visiting,
And you’ll tell me which one he is,
Without pointing.”
After we did that,
I went to the principal's office.

I brought in the boy who was harassed,
“What happened in the bathroom?”
“Nothing happened,” he answered.
“Didn’t a certain boy take you to the bathroom?”
“Yes.”
“He took off your pants?”
“Yes.”
“Did he do something after that?”
“No, because I told him that it was inappropriate and haram what he wanted to do.”

I was surprised,
That a boy in first grade,
Was aware of what was happening,
And that it was considered inappropriate and haram.
He was probably worried that I’d punish him.
I couldn’t believe that a boy in the sixth grade,
Would take advantage of a boy in the first grade,
Just because he knew he wouldn’t be able to speak up.
